What do you do to calm yourself down? When you just want a nice night to yourself, what do you do? What do you choose to do with yourself when you’re by yourself and know no one is there to judge you?
Personally, I switch on my comfort shows, which are a very specific genre of shows that many people would call: nerdy as fuck. I’ll rewatch Doctor Who until the cows come home, I’ll switch in an episode of QI to learn a little something while I laugh, I’ll watch the Great British Bake Off because I think nice people baking simply because they love doing it is absolutely adorable, and of course, I love a juicy new episode of Drag Race. I’ve also started watching a lot of the anime shows I liked growing up because now, as an adult, I can actually appreciate the complex storylines and worlds the writers are creating - plus Megan The Stallion is also a weeb like me, so that also makes me feel better about the whole thing (I should also mention that I’m currently in the middle of my Saturn Return, which is occurring in Pisces, the most nostalgic sign ever, but we’ll get into that another time).
That was a bit of a digression, BUT what I’m trying to say is that when I’m on my own and just want to self-soothe, I turn on TV shows that make me laugh and allow my imagination run wild, which completely aligns with my Moon Sign.
A quick refresher on Moon Signs
Your Moon Sign in astrology represents your inner world - your emotions, how you care for others, your subconscious thoughts, your needs, and how you nurture yourself. The Moon itself is hidden during the day and comes out at night, and even though it sounds a bit literal, it’s honestly the best way to explain how your Moon Sign works. Your Sun Sign shines brightly out in the world, and when the Sun disappears, you’re left with your Moon Sign, who helps you to balance yourself mentally and emotionally, so you’re ready to embrace your Sun Sign again.
The Moon affects many things in the world around us. New Moons usually make way for new beginnings and Full Moons always bring about the end of a cycle, whilst revealing a secret or two. It also only takes two days for the Moon to travel between one zodiac sign to the next. If you’ve ever wondered why you’ve felt irrationally anxious on a Wednesday, and completely mellow on a Thursday, chances are the Moon just moved through Virgo and Libra.
Everyone has a Moon Sign and it’s very easy to figure out because you don’t need to know your birth time. You can find out what your Moon Sign is by just typing your birth date and location into a birth chart generator online and BOOM you’ve got it. You won’t know what house it’s in, but it’s a start.
Nurturing yourself using your Moon Sign
I firmly believe that knowing your Moon Sign is essential when using astrology as a tool to understand yourself better. Your Moon Sign won’t just tell you what you’re like when you’re feeling stressed, tired, anxious, or cranky, it’ll also tell you what could make you feel more balanced and centred when the world just feels like it’s a bit too much.
I’m a Leo Moon and anyone with even a sliver of astrology knowledge reading this right now would know that Leos can be a bit childish. This isn’t a bad thing by any means, all it really means is that Leos can be quite optimistic and see the world through rose-coloured glasses, until someone snatches those glasses off their face and shows them the grim reality. Then, they might have a tantrum because something hasn’t gone their way or whatever. Leos are also incredibly artistic but tend to lean more towards the performing arts rather than the visual arts (that’s more of a Libra thing).
Leo Moons are different to Leo Suns, as their brightness tends to come out when they’re either alone or with people they trust completely. While Leo Suns love being silly and are usually some of the most entertaining people in a crowd, Leo Moons save this side of themselves for when they’re at home.
So, when it comes to nurturing themselves, what do you think a Leo Moon would do? They’d probably have a silly TV show or movie they watch (or even just play in the background while they do other things) that feels a bit silly and farfetched, but really makes them laugh and unlocks their imagination. They may also have specific playlists they listen to at night or podcasts they are enveloped in.
This is just one example though. What makes a Leo Moon feel comforted won’t necessarily make a Sagittarius Moon or a Virgo Moon feel the same way. Every sign is different and has their own list of things that will make them feel comforted and nurtured when they just want to relax, ground themselves, and regulate their emotional undercurrents.
So, without further ado, after years of talking to people, reading charts, and being the unofficially astrology girlie no one really asked for (but needs, obviously!), here are some activities that may make you feel comforted and nurtured according to your Moon Sign:
Aries Moon: Running, boxing, meditating, practicing yoga.
Taurus Moon: Taking a long bath or an ‘everything shower’, ordering in or eating out.
Gemini Moon: Talking to someone, journaling, researching something, watching reality TV.
Cancer Moon: Watching a rom com, baking something sweet, cuddling something, crying.
Leo Moon: Watching a comedy or musical, seeing live music, dancing in the living room.
Virgo Moon: Knitting, reading, journaling, cleaning.
Libra Moon: Painting, exploring an art gallery, sewing, playing an instrument.
Scorpio Moon: Doing tarot or oracle readings, reading a mystery novel, or watching a murder mystery.
Sagittarius Moon: Watching YouTube videos about various subjects, watching a foreign film, researching something.
Capricorn Moon: Ordering in, getting a massage, bouldering, writing down what you achieved during the day.
Aquarius Moon: Doing an exercise class, going to a book club, watching a documentary, experimenting in the kitchen.
Pisces Moon: Drawing, painting, scrapbooking, watching a sci-fi or fantasy film.
Now these are just for the signs, of course. If you happen to also know which house your Moon is in, there will also be another layer of self-soothing activities for you to delve into. For example, my Leo Moon is in the third house. This means not only am I comforted by the things that nurture a Leo, but I’m also comforted by the things that nurture a Gemini, as the sign of Gemini (and the planet Mercury) rule the third house.
So, if you know what house your Moon is in, find the sign that rules it in this list and you’ll have a nice combination of activities that’ll make you feel more emotionally balanced when you think you need it.
